Speaker placement in an L shape living environment

Hi Guys, I am thinking about setting up a 7.1 set-up in my living room and need some advice. Before I moved 3 years ago I had a 5.1 set-up in my old flat. I am looking to use the exact same equipment, for money reasons and because I like what I have :) I have a set of 4 Mission M30i speakers, a Mission M3c1 center speaker and a Mission M8 sub woofer

To power these I have a Pioneer VSX AX2 and I have two Atacama speaker stands for the fronts. I will be wall mounting the surrounds and the rears.

Any way my questions are these.

1) I would like to add another pair of speakers to act as rears in a 7.1 set-up, Should I buy two more of the M30's or some other speakers.

2)How should I position the surrounds and rears i.e wall position and how high of the ground and ceiling. I have an L Shape living room that is around 18-20 feet long and 13/14 feet long at the point where I will be seated (I will be seated, at ear level, around 12 feet from the tv and 7 ft from the rear wall and about six feet from the side walls) and around 9 feet from floor to ceiling. Also How far apart should the rear speakers be, I have a gap in the wall around 3 feet long directly behind the seated position.

Annoyingly my wife doesn't want the rear speakers at ear height as it will impact on walking space around our dining table : (

Also the L in the L shape starts at the back of my seating position so up untill past my prime listening position the room is a straight rectangle room but opens up into an L shape to the left, making the back 7 to 8 feet 3 yo 4 feet wider than the living space.

3) How do you work out angles for specific placement on walls? I am looking at the Dolby and THX diagrams and seeing the angle but not sure how to measure them out. Or is that a dumb question

3) I have a small (1 1/2 ft) wall that sticks out in the middle of the room, protruding from the side walls where the rooms were knocked into one. Is it OK to place the surrounds behind this as it would be perfect alignment for the main seated position but would obviously obscure any sound from our other seated position that is situated the other side of the wall. I am assuming in from of this wall would be too far forward for the main couch in front of the TV.

4) Whats the best way to hide the speaker wires. I am having new carpets relayed in week and I thought I could use this as a way of hiding the speaker wires under. My guess is I will have to use some D line trunking up the wall but any other solutions?

Anyhow sorry for the long winded questions and any help would be much appreciated :smashin:

I would also post some pics and diagrams but unfortunately I am unable too as this is my first post

I have also come up with two crude plans. the first one will show the surrounds at exactly 90 degrees either side of the main seating position. the other has the speakers further back into the L shape area of the lounge.

Could you move your rear sofa in more?

I did some editing, and I think the only thing that kills your sound are the rear SS speakers.

Could you do some thing like this? :

It could be a possibility, although I'm not sure my wife would be totally keen! What would be the main benifit? Would it simPly be the ability to move the surrounds to in front of the Walls? Also you said rear SS did you mean the speakers on the back wall? You also have the sides away from the side Walls is that correct, do you see these as being on sands rather than being wall mounted?

Thanks for the helP so far guys, I need all the help and advice I can get at the mo :)

Went out today and brought a pair of Mission MX1 :) These are gonna replace my fronts and I will wall mount my speakers at the front to act as the rears.

I think I will place the Surrounds at a 90 degree angle, up high, to the middle couch and place the rears either side of the door way just above the lights. will this be sufficient? I will off course angle the speakers down and towards the listening position

Also can someone please explain Bi-amping and can/should I do it with the MX1 and my Pioneer VSX AX2AV and is it worth it?
