guys,

I have a small room & im thinking of mounting my speakers at the ceiling (also for a clean look), currently it is mounted on the wall around 5-6 feet but it goes on the way when you walk near the tv

1. is it ok to mount/hang my speaker on the ceiling (around 7 feet height) & just aim/tilt downwards? any disadvantage or difference compared to a ear level mount?

2. i have no room in the back, how can i mount my rear back speaker to make it a 6.1? is it ok to mount in directly above the ceiling pointing downwards? or ill just stay w/ my 5.1 set-up?

thanx

Tweeters should be ear level when you sit.

YUK.

Position of speakers is critical. Especially the main speakers (LCR).

Your soundfield should be "inline" with the action. It is very confusing to the mind (eyes & ears) to have voice signal and sound signal coming from significantly different angles.

The "rule" regarding 5.1 versus 6.1 is that it is better to do 5.1 well, than it is to do 6.1 poorly.

I also have small room disease (11x13). I gave up the idea of 6.1, as I would have concentrated the surround and rear speakers. Not a good idea to concentrate ambience speakers... the sound needs to bounce around with large space between sound sources... the arrows in "Gladiator" need to sound as if they are being launched over your head, not as if they are coming in from the flanks.
