Speaker placement/EQ.

I purcahsed new lipsch RF 62's. I have a RX-DP9VBK JVC A/V controller. I have spent about 4 weeks trying to find correct speaker placement. Can't move them around much (room limitations). I have a sub and center as well. Listening to CD's they sound crappy. No bass or mid's. This is having everything set at "0". No eg. or level boost on the AV controlller. Any suggestion? should I start boosting the eq? I haven't purchased a DB meter yet, and gone throught that process.

Thanks all.

First thing is to reverse polarity on one of your speakers so it is "out of phase".
What you are describing sound like a phase issue. You may have crossed a connection or the manufacturer may have internally done it, but switch positive and negative terminals at one speaker and see what that does to the sound.

Definitely agree with the phase part, but I also hope you're using at least 18awg wire or lower. I recently had some 24 awg stuff lying around from a PCB soldering job i was doing and no speaker cable for a couple days... so you know what I did...

suffice to say, it sounded downright anemic. Only the lower highs and upper mids even seemed to be getting through.

Doubt it's the polarity, but I will check. I have tried setting the speakers to large and small. Large seems to sound a little fuller. I have tried with and without the sub. These speakers are known for their low end, many have recommended no sub with these speakers while listseniong to music.
I will check polarity, and report back. I am using 14 gauge monster speaker cable.
thanks all.

Seriously, I have no life.

Bass being non-existent is almost always a polarity problem when it's just one pair of speakers. If the receiver has a way to cross over for sub/satellites, it needs to be checked for settings. If the receiver is set to "Sub-Yes" when one isn't connected, you're obviously have a problem unless the crossover frequency is set at/near the low end limit of the satellites. If you set it for 2 channel with no sub and you can set the level of each speaker separately, you would hear the bass improve when you adjust the channel balance. If it doesn't improve, you may be sitting in a null point. Google Ethan Winer and download his Room Mode Calculator, then check to see if the speakers and/or you are in a null. Also, you can use a AA battery to determine the woofer's polarity by connecting a short piece of speaker wire in the speaker's terminals and touching the positive wire to the positive end of the battery and connect the other wire to the negative of the battery. If the speaker moves inward, it was wired wrong. It happens. It's rare, but it happens.

Have you tried with the sub off? The polarity of the sub may be 180 out.

Again thanks everyone, good advice.
This is all just in 2 channel, no sub, speakers set to large. I checked the polarity of the amp and in the back of the speakers and they are correct. The speakers are new RF 62's so I doubt it's internal wiring in the speakers but i will check. I am very limited on where i can place them. They currently are apart the same distance as from the listening position minus 10%. They are 13" from the back wall angled in. I bet it is probably just the dynamics of the room.
Thanks again.

What source material are you using? What is the room like? Carpeted or hard wood floors? What speakers did you own before these? Have you contacted Klipsch?

Various metal bands. Mettalica etc... on CD. Previous speakers were Pioneer's. HPM 100's.
It is a 10" x 16 ' carpeted room. The 1st speaker is set 30" out from the corner on the long wall of the room. Then there is the TV then another speaker. See above for speaker placement. The listening area is a couch, 8' directly across from the speakers, against the wall.
Thanks
