Speaker Placement: ceiling v/s wall

Hi: I am thinking of buying the Onkyo HT-S907 home theater package. The speakers are mount on the walls. Should I be looking for speakers that can go on walls or ceilings for better overall sound?

Your first choice should be free standing, then on wall, and lastly ceiling for HT applications. Casual listening, background music, it doesn't really matter, like a car radio
