Speaker match Denon 3805

Hi. I presently own the 3805 and the speakers I am using are the paradigm monitor series. My question is if I upgrade to the higher end Refernce series is the Denon a good enough match for these speakers or do they require separates to achieve there optimum sound.

Thanks in advance.

I have read this topic before. I really don't know from experience. As good as the 3805 is, it most likely won't supply the power that the reference line needs and deserves to perform at their best. The reference line is apparantly power hungry so seperates will most likely be needed. Whereas the monitor line, which I have with a denon 1804, are very efficient with average power. I not saying the 3805 is average because it certainly puts out alot of power but it will most likely not have the grunt that the reference line needs. The way I see it, if you shell out the money for the reference line, before you do that you should make sure you have some money left over to supply them with the amp that they deserve. The 3805 will do but if I was you I would just stay with the monitor line. For the money spent on the reference line, you will not get your moneys worth with the 3805 powering them.

Freddy-

I've got the 3805 paired with Studio Reference 100's v3, the 570 v3, and the ADP surrounds (soon to be ADP-470 v3). The combo is awesome. :D To shed light on an often confused issue...the Reference line are fiercely efficient speakers (91-93 dB if I remember correctly). However, the 100's have a huge impedance dip down in the low range (to crank those 3 8" woofers) that often demands some extra power. The other speakers in the line don't have this issue. They are efficient and easy to drive.

That being said, I bi-amp my 100's with the extra rear-surround amp channels of the 3805. The sound is fantastic and the 100's really sing with the extra power. If you're planning on a 7.1 setup and are considering the 100's, I'd definitely recommend a dedicated 2-channel amp for the front end. If you're going with 5.1 or fronts other than the 100's, you'll be fine with what the 3805 has to offer. I'll eventually add an amp, but it's not at the top of my list right now.

See if your dealer will let you do an in-home audition. That's really the best way to tell if you like the combo.

Why don't you upgrade the speakers and see if you like it with just the receiver? If you don't think it is enough, just buy a two-channel amp and run the fronts with the 3805 acting as a pre-amp. That will give you plenty of power to run the center and surrounds with the Dennon's own amp.

Paradigm speakers are relatively easy impedance loads and are sensitive speakers. You should not have problems with that Denon.

Could you explain this a bit further. Some are curious about this, me being one.

All their speakers are rated for a minimum amplifier rating of 15 watts. They will sound just fine with your 3805.

Please follow this link and read the reviews (with lab tests) on the 3805. You will be pleasantly surprised to see its 1,2,5 channel driven power (out perform the AVR630 that has a higher power consumption). The 3805 should have enough power to handle the Studio 100 nicely.

For a given power output, the relatively lower power consumption of the 3805 may indicate that it has an overall, more efficient amplifier design.

3805

3805's power consumption is 7.1*120~850VA, taking into account power factor the power consumption is around 600W, the 630's is 550W (see the back panel) not the 1000W posted on the HK website, the elite 55/56 consums 600W or 780VA, the yammie 2400 480W or 600VA. As you can see they're all within the same range so the differences in their power outputs are due to the amp design and efficiency. I've had the 3805 paired up with studio 80's V2 but then I sold the studios and got monitor 9's. Personally, I think that they both sound very similar on the 3805.

I read about HK receivers typically run hot, if true, that could account for their apparently higher consumption.
