zumbo the speakers i have now, small B&W, will only cause the discoloration when the speaker is about 2 inches from the crt however when placed to the side there is no problem. my concern is with the tower speakers i'm planning on buying. tv is sony 36hs500

I don't think it will be a problem as long as they are at least 8-12" away from the TV.

My sub is directly under my TV. If I slide the TV back about 4" I gete this blueish-green wash on the bottom of the screen. It's fine now but I had to wonder if there is the possibility of damage.

No matter - the new set-up will cure that.

tjs, shielding your own speakers is a very simple procedure, we have been doing it in the shop for customers a very long time, just buy a piece of this material which we carry it the shop to solve purity problems caused by unshielded speakers set close to a TV, take a look:

Distance is your best friend.

I don't know what you mean by "right next to" your TV.

My old Infinity RS 4's, unshielded speakers with dual 8" woofers, would cause problems when the speakers where within 6" of the TV. Would suck the color right out of TV. But increasing the distance to 12", and placing the TV within a wooden stereo cabinet, and there was just some color distortion. Move the speakers out to 18" from the TV, and I had no further problems.

The color distortion was a temporary problem for me, as I did not leave the speakers that close to the TV for very long.

I remember once when I had my dBX Soundfield V's, they had this 15 inch woofer with a 144 ounce magnet. One was next to my computer. There was never a problem as long as the computer was on, but once I left for a week or so and shut the computer off. When I got home the hadr drive was totally wiped.

What do you do if you don't have the option of having the front speakers away from your TV because of lack of space? and you already have those unshielded speakers that are causing purity problems on your TV?

t thanks again....btw is there a web site with a discription of how to shield the speaker?

"to the side" is actually 4 inches, my tv has speakers mounted vertically
on the side so maybe they will provide protection.

space is not a factor for the speakers but for tower speakers WAF is !!! :D

We usually cover the inside lateral walls of the speakers and fasten it with staples or if you can't use the staple gun because of lack of space, you can use flat head short nails, like the ones shoemakers use or even thumb nails will do.

The foil works very well, you can even have the speakers touching the sides of the TV, the magnets will not effect the purity of your TV anylonger.
