LOL, I used to have that exact receiver.:) And you are right, it doesn't have preouts. If you still have the Infinitys why do you need additional amplification? A much more cost effective solution would be to upgrade your receiver to a more current and powerful model from either Onkyo or another manufacturer, unless you already have the amplifier.;)

If you plan on getting say a PS3 or Blu-ray player in the future you may want HDMI with audio processing abilities. I would take a hard look at the following AVRs. Yamaha RX-V661, Onkyo TX-SR605 or possibly the TX-SR705, and my personal favorite for under $500 at the moment is the Harman Kardon AVR-247. It does basically everything the Onkyo TX-SR705 can just minus the HDMI 1.3 (not needed) and the H/K actually does one more thing that none of the receivers in this price bracket do, it has a scaler (just not a great one).

Thats probably what i'll do... A new receiver is the best bet... Although, I am working on a deal to get some new fronts and surrounds and whatever..

I actually dont have infinity's.. its basically the dayton BR1 in the cabinets, slightly different crossover. Pretty inefficient.. neither here nor there, I'm looking at some RF-7s (dean g xover) and RB-75's as surrounds... I dont need the power, I just want it..

I did get a PS3 and some additional connectivity would be nice.. i'll probably do that.. I'll check out the HK

Thanks

Ok, well.. now the curiosity is just there.. what would you do if you had no preouts?

I wouldn't use one of those high level converters for sure, too much room for error. High level outputs have more distortion than low level, everything is just different. It's not to say it can't be done, it's just not good for fidelity.:) You seem like someone that would be more concerned with accuracy versus power.;) The H/K of course has preouts in the case you should decide to add amplification.:)
