Fortunate enough to be doing a reno to base structure on our new home and wanted some input on speaker layout for a few key areas - mainly the use of in-ceiling speakers vs. floor, bookshelf, or in-wall.
I've attached PDF with floor layout and I'll probably be able to figure out the rest of the house layout by getting info on the Kitchen/Living area (great room concept) and the bedroom/bathroom.
Basement will have 7.1 or more setup in the wide open room (not dedicated room). Suppose I'll have to figure out the whole Atmos and beyond thing in another thread...
My current audio equipment: Denon 3312ci, Emotiva UPA-7, 2xSonos ConnectAmp, Sonos Connect, 2xPlay:3, Onyx Ref 1 5.1, 2xNHT On-Wall, 2x NHT Abs Zero Bookshelf, NHT 10b Sub.
Great Room: There will be a TV on the right wall by seating. My initial thought was to purchase Sonos Playbar & Sub and then put 4 in-ceiling speakers (pair over island, pair over couch). I'm not really going after surround sound but want good audio (not critical listening, but good playback that goes up a decent amount for a party).
Question: when using in-ceiling in rooms like this should I be using dual coil for better music spread or still try to setup left and right orientation?
Question: have access to some great pricing on NHT IC3-ARC ($100/speaker). Should I be jumping on them? Not dual coil but I do like the NHT product.
Dining Room: Another case for dual coil in-ceiling or could I use bookshelf (NHT 2.1 Abs Zero that I have)?
Master Bathroom: single in-ceiling, stereo in-ceiling, or just a Play:3 or Play:5?
I realize this is all a function of budget but I'll give you our desires and see if we can get that done: we listen to all genres of music including funk, old hip-hop, pop, rock, jazz,... pretty eclectic tastes -> good music is good music. We like to turn it up and groove a little as a family - fun volume with some bass. Not critical listening by any means but I want to enjoy the sound.
Enough from me to start. Will mark up the drawings as I get feedback. Thanks for taking a look.
