Hello All -

I have an issue with bass out of my fronts. Let me start by telling you what I have... a Yamaha 5750 receiver, JBL e60s up front, all hooked up with the "best" (ha) Monster Cable - I KNOW, but I worked at Best Buy so its not like I paid much...

Anyway, I was over at a friend's house who has a Technics older receiver and the JBL e80s I believe (they are the ones with dual 6.5'' woofers). His seem to have a TON of bass - and NO sub! I was thinking to myself when I was listening to his... "huh, maybe I should turn off my sub and try mine out like that because mine have an 8'', I should get something, right?!" I went home, set the receiver to "Direct" or whatever and tried it out (I think direct is what Yamaha calls it when the sub is off). Well, sure enough, mine dont seem to be putting out anything. In fact, last night I wondered if the woofer was even working. Could this be something with the receiver? The frequency cut off is at 80hz, but if its on "direct" that shouldnt matter (even when I turned it as low as it could go, 40 or 60, there was still little output from that woofer).

The speakers are about 6-8 months old and are broken in I would guess by now. Im just not sure where I stand here... I just feel like there is more in my little Klipsch upstairs.

Let me know what you guys think - you all are great and very helpful!!!

Crap... I forgot the point of this, and the title of my post: should I have better speaker jumpers? Right now I just have the wire going right into the "highs" and the basic plate jumpers the speakers came with. Could that be part of it?

Yes, the speakers are set to large.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're not bi-wiring, (just running one wire, one connection) I believe the wire should be going into the lows, not the highs. Also, this is assuming that by "highs" you mean the top 2 connectors, not the bottom 2, right? If that's the case, run your wire to the bottom 2.

They are in the top two - according to JBL's manual, those are the "high frequency" and the ones THEY say to connect your wire to. (Not like they are always right).

With the jumper in place, it shouldn't make any difference, theoretically. The only reason it would make a difference is if the jumper was a POS.

"BETTER" jumpers? I usually replace the brass jumpers that are on there with a short run of the same wire I'm using for the speakers.

As to why you don't get as much bass, that has to do with the positioning of the speakers, the size of your room, whether or not you are giving the speakers the power they need, etc... How about your sources? Does it do the same thing for all sources? Speakers do not break in.

On the receiver do you have the bass set to "BOTH"? Do you still have sub=yes? Turn the sub off in the speaker setup menu and see if that makes any difference.
