Speaker hook up questions

I have never hooked up speakers before so I really have no idea what I am doing. I dont even know the difference between speaker interconnects and speaker wires. So far my system is- Visio VX32L hooked up a Yamaha RX-V661 with a HDMI cable. I then have a Oppo DV 941-HD hooked to the reciever also with an HDMI cable. I am looking to hook up NHT 2-Classic Three Bookshelfs and a Classic Three C, I would like to be using the best possible speaker wire, I need about 4ft for each speaker.

My other questions is that I dont see a difference between 480p and 1080p on the Oppo. My TV supports 1080p, so I am a little confused about this. Is it the upscaling of my old dvd that makes it look basicaly the same, do I need to use HD-DVD's to really see a difference?

Any suggestions and help are appreciated

I would suggest 12 gauge, and it doesn’t really matter who you buy it from; a spool wire from Kimber wont perform much (if at all) better than one from MonoPrice.com.

Well, since the TV's native resolution is 1080, it must upscale whatever it is sent to its native resolution of 1080; so setting the Oppo to output 1080 rather than 480 (which is DVD’s native resolution) will only result in an improvement if the scaler in the Oppo is better than the scaler in the Visio, and since you didn’t see any improvement it would seem that the Visio does a good job of it. :)
