Hi, I just ordered Dell Altec Lansing ADA 995 5.1 speakers. The speakers connect to the laptop with three color coded 3.5mm stereo plugs (red, black white). My laptop (HP Pavillion DV9000)only has two audio out 3.5mm jacks - one Audio-out(headphone) jack and one Audio-out(headphone) S/PDIF jack.

How can I connect the speaker's three plugs into the laptops two jacks?

Is there a converter which connects three 3.5 mm plugs into one plug that I can plug into my laptop?

With only two plugs connected to my computer will all the speakers produce sound or will I be missing channels?

thanks

thats designed to use with a multi ch output sound card or a digital output. does your headphone output doubles as a digital jack, if so you need a cable for it, if not you need an external sound card

If I plug in just two of the chords will I be missing full channels of audio or will the sound be 2.1 as opposed to 5.1?

I'm using the speakers for music, as long as channels aren't missing there shouldn't e a problem

one of the cords, not two. the headphone out is stereo so it goes into l/r inputs. I assume you have a mini3.5mm to 2 rca cable?

edit... the sub only has an spdif input correct? if so revert back to my previous post

sorry, I'm new to this and confused. what I want to know is, will channels of sound be missising If I plug in just two or one plug as opposed to all three?

or will the sound be 2.1 as opposed to 5.1?

I'm okay with 2.1 sound as long as all 5 speakers play sound and no audio channels are missing from the output

If you connect the green plug to the headphone output on the lapton you will get the front L and R. NO OTHER SPEAKERS WILL PLAY INCLUDING THE SUB, you need an external sound card for this system or a digital output from the laptop.
