I would use standard enclosure polyfil. Spray foam can set hard and actually remove some of the critical interior volume from the enclosure. Acoustic foam panels are expensive and may not fit properly within the enclosure due to their thickness. You can caulk all the enclosure seams and joints though. Depending on whether you are building a bass reflex (ported) design or an acoustic suspension (sealed enclosure) - any air into or out of the enclosure is controlled by the design.

Just my $0.01 worth (currency deflation you know, 2 cents is worth about a penny now).

What does the speaker designer recommend ?

+1. That's pretty much the answer I would give also.

The enclosure should be completely filled with Polyfill. The stuffing should well fill the cavity, but it should not be compressed.
