I am in the market for a new audio and video system. I'm not sure how best to get to Dolby 5.1 Digital. I have a Yamaha RXV870 Dolby Prologic tuner/amp and Bose 901 Series VI main L-R front speakers. The 901's have an active equalizer that operates between the preamp and the main amp of the receiver. Are there 5.1 tuners out there that will operate with the Bose equalizer?

There are receivers with "pre-out" and "main in" RCA jacks if this is what you mean. They are generally at the top of the manufacturers' lines and are much more expensive than entry or mid-level receivers. You may be better off buying new speakers when you upgrade to a new receiver.

Agreed. First step is ditch the Bose if you are starting a new system.

You would be looking for a modern receiver. They are 5.1 or better, 6.1 and 7.1, DD, DTS.
If you like those speakers, strictly your preference and choice ;) You need a receiver with what was posted above, a pre amp out, main amp in so you can insert the active EQ. The less expensive receivers don't usually have the amp in; they do have the pre out though and you could use another power amp.
