Hello folks,

Yesterday i was connecting my Paradigm Cinema 110 with my onkyo NR807. I did the intial setup based on the manual. When i reached the speaker configuration i ran into issues. I have connected bare wires at both ends. When the audyssey setup using the mic my left speaker makes a very strange but scarry slashing sound. It happens thrise and i get the speaker detect error. I tried many times by checking and changing the wiring but it didnt work.

I have connected the 5 speakers as appropriate. The speaker configuration is not even passing front left speakers.

Help is strongly appreciated. I am planning to buy banana connectors today to see if it changes my luck.

Thanks,
Venky

Seriously, I have no life.
"I have connected bare wires at both ends."

Does this mean that the wire ends were stripped, the strands twisted and inserted into the terminals? That should work as well as any other method. Banana plugs are only for convenience- they can't make the connection better.

Look at the wire ends in bright light- if you see any strands of wire that touch the opposite terminal or wire strands, make sure to twist them so this can't happen.

Yes. I have connected with stripped wires. Should i be testing with only few speakers before i can connect all the speakers to the receivers?

During the audyssey setup i am getting a very scratchy sound out of front left speaker thrice before i get the error message

It should be fine with all speakers hooked up. Like highfigh stated above, check for wire strands both at the speaker and the AVR.

If you still get the "scratchy sound", try changing the left and right speaker so we can isolate the issue.

Thanks folks.

I tried all sort of things and the receiver does not detect anything in its left port. Per Onkyo support i am exchanging it.
