I’m building my first home theater. I’ve designed a false front wall for my speakers and components. If I decide to use an 83” tv this limits me to 36” floor to tv clearance. With a projector not a problem. Ok here’s the stupid question, can you turn the speakers upside down and still sound good ?

As long as the tweeter remains at ear level, speakers can be inverted.

You want the tweeter to be ear level. Though in theory you could turn speakers upside down: for your mains, I think all would argue it’s a bad idea. Especially considering that depending on the crossover, your sound might tilt away from you, even if you angled them.

Yeah my only option is get 36” speakers or acoustic transparent screen with projector. Thanks

What’s important? The visual or the sound? If you are going to go all in on a video experience and limit the sound experience... ???

Needless to say, I’m an music/audio first kind of guy (just to put my comment in perspective). I would feel like I screwed myself if I didn’t give myself the best sound option possible. Not in overly expensive gear, but in sound quality per allowed budget. Restricting sound for an enormous screen would be heresy to me. ;) Do yourself the favor of going transparent so you can upgrade over time rather than saddle yourself with standmounts and possibly poor positioning.

Just my 2cents.

Yes it’s a no brainer. I’m probably 80% music

Funny you bring this up. In my main living room I bought my wife her first 65 inch Samsung LED HD tv in 2012 for our house warming present. I had my HT/Audio Gear stored away in my eventual Man cave Dedicated HT. We would watch all different kinds of movies together using the Samsung sound bar and wireless sub.(still has wires but it’s called wireless LOL). Anyways once my mancave HT was built I set everything up except I had not purchased my 100 inch manual screen yet. So I was using a small 32 inch HD tv and it was ridiculous. Huge system meant for a monster screen surrounding a 32 inch TV. Talk about selling the whole experience short. My point once I bought the 100 inch screen movies and Concerts came to life. Now to watch anything in the main living room with the 65 inch, sound bar and wireless sub does absolutely no justice to any source material so yes one without the other is half hazard at best. We watched Aquaman this weekend and talk about an amazing movie to show off all audio and visual aspects of a home theater. This movie is not meant to watched on s system that cannot shake the house in my opinion or with a small screen. Go Big and Go Loud but don’t blow any of your gear up!

So, why not a acoustically transparent screen (AT)?

If the room supports a 120" front projection setup, then matching the video quality to the audio quality is certainly a great way to go.

I will say that I'm a firm believer that home theater starts at 100".
