Speaker crackling..

Hi all,

I have a strange problem and don’t know where to begin troubleshooting.

Here is my setup

Denon 4306 Receiver
VIP 622 Dish Network Hd DVR
Samsung HP-S5053 TV

All HDMI cabling.

For the first few months with this setup I had no issues. All of the sudden we started to hear intermittent crackling through the speakers while watching live or pre-recorded TV. I initially thought it was noise from the weather, but after a while the problem became more frequent. It’s the most annoying noise you can imagine, and louder than the actual volume of the program. It sounds like taking a needle across a vinyl record and “scratchy” It you turn the Denon off and on again, it goes away. Sometimes the noise last a few seconds and sometimes up to 30 seconds. The picture remains perfect.

I have another tv upstairs that feeds off the same dish netowkr DVR, but is not HD. No noise or issues thorough there. I have a feeling something is going goofy with the HDMI connections. Not sure if the DVR or the Denon is to blame. What is interesting is that I didn’t change anything when this problem started.

Any ideas on what this might be?

First try another HDMI cable. If that does not work, then try an audio connection with optical or digital SPDIF coax. If the problem is not corrected by one of these moves then I suspect the DAC in the DENON is going down.
