Hey guys, this is my first post.
I was wondering if anyone every thought about using left and right channels behind projector screen in place of a center and wide left and rights to the sides of the screen. I prefer not using my center channel as much just for preference. Having stereo sound behind screen would seem more realistic to me. Any thoughts? Thanks.

You don't have an acoustically transparent screen and want to limit the L/R instead of just reducing level on the center or eq'g out the highs or? It would be the center behind and in the middle of an acoustically transparent screen that would be most realistic....IMO.

The thing is, stereo sound is recorded that way. Left and right. Movie sound is mixed, not that way, with dialogue placed in the center channel. Some have used "phantom center" with success, but I wouldn't do it personally. As I looked over your post, it occurred to me that you possibly meant using the "stereo" pair wired from the center channel to provide a phantom center, and use "wides" as the L/R. That would be totally unsuccessful and I hope my alternative interpretation is wrong. So no, stereo sound behind the screen would not be more realistic.
