Speaker Cable/Connection - Shielding

I had an installer come out yesterday to run the speaker cable for my HT. After he made a whole in the drywall for the front-right speaker wire (2" by 4"), I noticed that there is an electrical line running vertically <2 inches away!!

I'm mounting the speakers flush against the wall so the connection posts/banana clips will actually be inside the drywall. So basically the banan clips/speaker posts will reside about an inch from the AC line - is this an issue? If so, can I shield the speaker connection some how?

I could always pay an Electrician to terminate that line but not sure what else it feeds :(

Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If the speaker cable is run inside that space and may be so close to the power cable for more than just the terminal, have him use twisted pair cable for speaker wires.

If the cable and the A/C are only close at the termination point you won't have much to worry about. The only time you really need spacing is when you have to run A/C and A/V cabling in parallel. In those cases you'll want a 16" separation so you guarantee no magnetic interference.

Good Luck. :)

Thanks for the feedback. Fingers crossed that it will be OK -- should have everything finally ready by Friday.

What's on the other side of the bay, and how long does it run along the line voltage? I assume it's the whole bay. If you have the option, keep it on the other side, and cross at 90deg
