Might depend on what you are connecting them to!

I assume we're talking about connecting to binding posts or spring terminals on your speakers and/or amp? If so, you don't need connectors (terminals) on your speaker wires. Connectors are a convenience for when you connect/disconnect your speakers. They have no electrical effect that matters.

I like having connectors. If your connectors are soldered on they will keep the ends of your cables from oxidizing, which is nice. If you intend to connect stuff once and then never change it, you wouldn't strictly need connectors, but they're awfully nice if you're the type that likes to tinker around with your system. Repeatably connecting and disconnecting bare wire is a real PITA.

Personally I like banana plugs. I'm just too lazy for spade lugs!
