Speaker backer box question

Hello,

I think I’m posting too many questions – just trying to get it right – so here goes.

Upgrading to new 5.2.4 setup.

When installing new (4-qty) 6-1/2” ceiling speakers between 16” center-to-center joists – is it worth the effort to place each speaker in a backer box enclosure (using the existing joists and adding some wood-n-stuff to create an enclosure) or just put-em in with-out an enclosure and tack some speaker box stuffing to the underside of the (above flooring) to absorb reflections ?

Is it gonna sound better - is really what I’m asking ?

Not using a backer box makes the whole large channel volume between the joists act as an infinite baffle – right ?

Also the joists are 9” deep.

Let me know what you think – thanks.
