Speaker and Sub Recommendations ~ 1,000

I'm looking for recommendations on a set of speakers and sub (5.1) to go with my Sharp Aquos 37", Yamaha VX-663, and PS3.

My budget is only around $1,000, and was really tempted to go with these:

But after speaking with SVS - these aren't going to be in until late this month or early Nov. This is totally unacceptable; I just bought Ironman. ;)

Recommendations? Thanks in advance for your time.

PS. Is it worth it to buy the SVS-01 5.0 (no sub) for $420? How much can I expect a sub to run me?

You can't go wrong with SVS. Take a look at theses as well:

If you don't mind floorstanding:

Some of these will push you out of your price range a little bit if you ad a subwoofer.

SVS, HSU, Epik, AV123 MFW are some of the subs you can look into that have great reviews. Unfortunately, they do cost money :D.

The SVS system comes complete with a killer subwoofer. It's IMO one of the best "bang for the buck" budget HT systems.

I really like av123's home trial period; that's my biggest concern really. How do you commit to something you've never heard?

Is really cheap; surprising really. I think I need to learn more about speaks to better compare. None the less, I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to offer some advice.

@mazersteven: I've been in love with the SBS's for quite some time; and now that I think I'm ready they're out! >< What do you think of the $420 price tag for a 5.0?

I'll second SVS. At ~$1K I'd be seriously looking at the SVS package(s), simply becuase you get an excellent sub in the deal no matter which one you choose, and the speakers are no slouch either for the price range.

AV123 (Onix), and Ascend Acoustics are good choices as well in my book, though with both I feel you may get a little better in the speaker department and a fair amount less in the sub department.

Yea, that's what I'm leaning toward. It sucks to hear what happened though! Had a problem with shipping which is why all their systems are on backorder.

@Mazersteven: Sent a PM.
