Good morning everyone.

Kind of an update and a question about my setup.

I am currently running the following home theater 5.1.2 setup:

TV: LG OLED C9 65"
AVR: Denon AVR-x4500h
Center: Klipsch RP-504c
Front: Klipsch RP-8000f
Surround: Klipsch RP-400m
Height: Klipsch RP-500sa
SW: SVS PC-2000

Now, I have wanted to expand to a 7.1.2 system all along, which is why I got the recevier that could handle it, but I haven't had the funds to get more speakers. A buddy that is moving out of town just gifted me a pair of Klipsch R-41m speakers for me to use. I can add these to my Surround Back channel and have my 7.1.2 setup. I am curious though, as I know that these new speakers are not as powerful as the rest of my setup.
My question is since they are not as powerful, where is the best placement for them? As in, which channel should have the more powerful speakers?
Should I move my RP-400m pair to the back and put the R-41m on the surround side channel, or should I just put the R-41m on the currently empty back channel?

Thanks everyone.

David

I could be wrong but I would think I would keep the RP-400m's to the sides

Rear surround as that is the least critical speakers. ((Possibly) unless the rear surrounds are placed very far back and you play very loudly)

You mention "very far back," I should have specified distances with my question.

The Front and Center speakers are about 8ft from the primary seating position.

The side surround speakers sit about 6 ft away.

And the back surround, when added in, will be about 12 feet behind.

If this makes any difference.

Ideally you want the rear surrounds to be the same distance as the side surrounds but sometimes that's not possible

Yeah, in this case it is the best I can do in the 12 ft behind. I was thinking originally that the better speakers maybe should be in the back as they are more powerful and they would be the furthest away. But if the concensus is to keep the better ones on the sides that is what I will do.

Just hang them from the ceiling just high enough for people to walk under

Another question, considering my setup.

I originally ran Denon Audyssey when setting up the speakers.

I just noticed that the front channel speakers are set to Large, but with my Sub I should change these to small correct?

And since Audyssey set them to large, I will have to adjust the crossover correct? Any recommendations based on my setup?

Thanks.

Small yes. Crossover try 60 and 80

Yep. Go ahead and set to small. Since they were set to large, they were detected to have an f3 around 40hz. That means anything above that point will be eq’d by audyssey. You never want to lower a XO below where audyssey set, but above is fine. In your case, I’d try anywhere from 50-100 and see what you like. The common default is 80, but rooms, speakers, and preference are all factors. So like usual, experiment.
