I have a Phillips LCD TV and the only audio out it has is a SPDIF. I am trying to hook up a remote headset for my 85 year old father, the system connects with a 3.5mm (I think) head phone plug. I have connectors for RCA, is there somewhere out there a single male (to connect to the SPDIF) to two female (RCA) to connect to the coneectors I have? The TV has a phones out but when it is plugged in there there is no sound from the speakers. I am trying to set it up so he can use either without haveing to plug and unplug all the time...

There is no way to go from digital to analog simply by swapping a cable; you need active electronics to do it.

What model is the TV? I have never seen a TV that had only digital audio outputs. It should also have analog outputs (RCA Red/White).

What kind of headphones are they? Are they wireless?

I know, neither had I. Ithink it is 37PFL5322D/37 Phillips 37" LCD HDTV . The only audio outs are a phones jack and the SPDIF. The rest are inputs...

It must have an ADC (for converting analog inputs to digital for output over SPDIF). That TV has no analog output aside from the spdif and headphones.

He doesn't want them, I do...He has trouble hearing dialog on some shows and DVDs. It is so he doesn't have the turn the TV up so loud. I have a set of infra-red "TV ears" type phones that have a male phone jck the attaches to a Y-RCA plug. Right now I have it split with another adpater going from the DVD player and the DTV box, but for some reason the DVD player needs to be powered on for you to hear the DTV box, but the DTV does not need to be on the hear the DVD player. And, what happens is the power save turns the DVD player off after no activity and shuts down the sound from the DTV...I wan to just run the audio out of the TV so what ever is on the TV goes through the head phones. I could just plug it into the phones jack but he doesn't use them all the time and he would have to plug and unplug each time he used them.

That sounds like the most cost effective solution. The next option would be to get something like a home theater in a box with headphone outs. You would still have to disconnect the headphones to get the sound from the home theater in a box, but the TV speakers would still be working.
