i have a question regarding sound settings for my Blu ray player. I have a LG HR923C connected via HDMI to a Sony HT CT 260H Soundbar now I'm confused about what Settings to chose I have 4 options 1.PCM Stereo 2. PCM Multi Channel audio 3. DTS or 4. Primary Pass Through (which i have selected right now so that the Soundbar does the decoding and nor my player). what do you think would be the appropriate setting?

Primary Pass Through if you want the Sony to do decoding and PCM Multi Channel if you want the player to do it.

Try both and keep whichever sounds better to you. They should be pretty much indistinguishable, but, one never knows.

Thank you for the tip i will test it out. Is there a benefit in terms of having the player decoding vs the Soundbar doing the decoding? i ask because when in Primary Pass Through setting sometimes the dialog seems not as clear in some movies.

Looking at both devices online, the Sony only has Optical, Coax and analog. Specifically, no HDMI input. Sorry about that, I just assumed that it did.

The preferable connections are Optical or Coax. You will need the LG player to be send PCM Multi Channel since HD audio cannot be send over these connections (and the Sony cannot decode it anyway).

How do you have it connected now?

The Sony Soundbar has HDMI thats why its the HT-CT260(H) the HT-CT260 has no HDMI.
I have my TV and Blu ray connected via HDMI to the Soundbar.

LOL! I was worried there for a sec.

Regarding the dialog not being clear, there could be few causes,
1) Movie soundtrack did not lend itself well to being downmixed to 2.1
2) Sony's Sound Field setting did not work well with soundtrack
3) Soundbar processing circuitry works better with PCM signal

I would say, pick the movie that had unclear dialog and try different Sound Fields. You may find one that works better.

Last but not the least, try the PCM and Pass Through options to see which works better for more movies (across different sound field settings on the Sony) and keep that one. That makes for a lot of permutation combinations to test :).

EDIT problem is fixed now did try a possible combinations and found the right one i let the sony do the decoding with the movie sound Field! if i let the player do the decoding + different Sound Fields the difference isn't as great.
