sound problems !

i notices some strange sound problem i have with my onkyo tx-ds939.
when i turn the amp on there is sometimes one speaker louder than the other one. when i turn up the volume at my amp the silent box turns on (with some scratching at the first seconds) in most cases. when i turn the amp off and on again then both speakers work correct sometimes or the other speaker is silent. i tested that in stereo mode only. what could cause one speaker not to turn on or suddenly have different volume ?

Had same problem with Nakamichi AV-10. First check speaker connection.
My Nak receiver started to do those things and then it ended in mayor failure (it died) first left channel then right channel, something about the potentiometer and power supply.
