Sound in big room with 2 TV's

My main TV viewing room is a large living room with a 60" TV in front with surround sound (Denon 4806). The room is large with a bar in the back. There's another TV at the bar that's connected to the front TV so they can show the same movie at the same time.

My problem is that when I turn on the sound for the speakers in bar while playing a movie the speakers seem to conflict with each other since the surround speakers are also in back. If I turn off the sound on the bar TV, the people sitting at the bar can't hear the voices on the movie well. If I turn them on, people watching the big TV in the front hear conflicting sound (front and back and surround) - it just doesn't sound very good.

Any ideas on how to make a big room with two TV's sound good?

Do you mean you turn on the internal speakers of the TV in the back of the room while at the same time the other 'real' speakers are playing? If so, the effect you are hearing is just two sources of the same sound playing at slight offsets in time to each other. It would be kind of like people in the front of the room and the back of the room talking at the same time - you hear everything but neither conversation is perfectly clear.

If you can do without surround for those instances you could:
- Use All Channel Stereo mode. The surround speakers in the back of the room would play the same thing the front left and right speakers are playing (as would the center).

- You could use an All Mono mode, if that receiver has such a feature. Every speaker would play the exact same sounds.

You could also serve drinks faster - or stronger. That way, people won't notice that the TVs sound funny. At least, they won't sound any more strange than anything else at that point. :)

Healthwise, I'd say go with MDS's suggestions, though.

two TV setup.

7 channel surround would work, but if you want surround sound in the main room and stereo at the bar, you might be able to issolate the two rooms with a curtain or other acoustic treatment to prevent the audio interferance. Even glass or plexiglass would block the sound waves but allow you to see between rooms.

Moving the bar close to the front or side of the HT room would be another option.

Sometimes, ya just gotta make a choice.

As long as the rear speakers are near the second TV you're gonna have this problem.

Iffens I were you, when I wanted both TV's going at the same time I would play the main system in stereo, or at least turn off the rear surrounds. You may lose the surround channels, but at least you'll have a roomful of happy people.

Two TV's

One of my thoughts was to run the back TV with hust a Center Speaker. So they could hear the voices from the back TV while sharing the bigger sounds with the main system. The main problem in with the back room TV is hearing the dialog. The front R/L speakers and sub carry sound just fine.
