Sound from the speakers

I have checked and rechecked all my cabling, Ran the auto setup, and even tried a bit tweaking using the manual setup. No errors reported for size or cabling. Regardless, I hear no sound from my speakers until the sound level is at -50 db or higher. For the first 80-50 db it is a very faint volume. I recently had my ear exam so that should not be an issue :)

I have a Yamaha RX-v2400 receiver connected to 5.1 JBL SCS160 SI speakers and SCS160 sub. Any help will be appreciated.

Your not going to hear decent sound until you are above about -40 dB. -20 should be very good:), -10 if you get there:D, 0 db

Every 1 dB change in/decreases power by about 26%. This is an exponential change. So let's work backwards, say 100W @ 0 dB.

-10 dB = 10W
-20 dB = 1W
-30 dB = 0.1W

hmm, OK. However, I used to have pretty decent volume at around -55, -50 db. It is after I moved and redid my setup that I started noticing this. I guess it may be the shape/size of the room and amount of furniture that may have contributed to this, then.

Seriously, I have no life.
If you look at the display, it shows -50dB, etc and that means it has been attenuated that much from the reference level. 55dB is a long way from that reference level and if you want to reproduce the signal cleanly at -0dB when the amp is putting out 1W at -20dB, it has to be able to put out 100W at -0dB.

Yes, size does make a difference. Especially if it's drastically larger, volume wise.
