sound card help

if i buy a 7.1 sound card for the pc will it be backwards compatiatable with 6.1. and my sceond question is if you guys know of any good and moderately priced cards that work with 6.1. thx.

I would personally go for an M-Audio Revolution 7.1. Lots of quality, no BS software like Creative. The downside is it doesn't do much hardware processing. It's around 80 bucks I believe.
