Sound Adjustment on Onkyo TX-NR 727

Hello friends,

Being new to audio sound systems and trying to acquire the best sound possible for my Samsung UN60F8000 TV, does the Onkyo TX-NR 727 adjust itself to the signal coming in from the TV or Blu-Ray player (Samsung BD-F5900)? Meaning to get the best surround sound possible do I have to manually go through the settings each time I want to watch a movie?

Here is why I ask. I was watching The Hobbit 3d and the sound was ok, but not great as I would have expected. When I tried to put the sound in THX movie mode, the volume went down and I had to set the volume past 65 (0-99) in order to get it back up to where it was when in surround mode.

Does anyone have a guide as to how to get the best sound possible without making all the changes to the receiver through the setup menu after the out-of-box factory settings are enabled?

I love the system I have finally built and with the Super Bowl coming up, I want to blow away my guests with some incredible sound.

Thank you.

SV

I'm sorry, but that is not nearly enough information to help you. We need to know how you have everything hooked up.

As I said last night, it is best to regard a TV as just a screen and only use the on/off switch. Connect everything to the receiver via HDMI and use one HDMI cable from receiver to TV. If you are using an over air signal to the TV, use the HDMI audio return feature if your TV and receiver support it.

The volume can go up or down based on the applied processing mode. THX adds an additional set of filters to the audio, in cinema mode its to envelop the listener as to a theater experience with emphasis on dynamics, so the overall volume is lowered to create more dynamics on the peaks ie explosions, gunshots, car chases, etc.

Hmm, when I had it hooked up that way, I was told it was wrong, that I should only have the "HDMI Out" from the TV to the receiver. Everything else hooked up to the TV. Then, I had some guy out from HHGregg to help and he said it was hooked up correctly. Then, I had a friend who worked for ABT Electronics (Chicago area) out and he tried working it the way you suggested.

Talk about being confused.

Now as far as more information, I have everything running with HDMI cables. What am I doing wrong here guys?

Thank you again for your help.
