Anyone have any line on any of the newer Sony ES receivers such as the STRDA1000ES through the STRDA5000ES series? Could the "5000" for $1,500 be the equal of a comparably priced Yamaha?

Thanks,

No experience personally, but alot of people on X forums complain about high hiss and very little power. Even Sony based forums too.

Stay away from these the amps are garbage 0.6% THD in anything is unacceptable especially when the 4ES and 7ES were rated at 0.05% THD

If you want Sony get the 4ES or 7ES. Otherwise look to Marantz, Denon, or Yamaha, these are the only companies I'd buy from.

Hellandros66...thanks for the reply. Some on-line sites list the THD for the new ES series receivers, the STRDA1000ES for instance, at .09%. Where can I find an authoritative forum to view?

Thanks,

First of all, not everyone hates the new Sony ES line. In fact, many have compared its sound to that of tube amps. It does seem pretty bipolar, but more seem to rave about it than dislike it. Nothing like booze. The digital amps are a different breed. From what I can tell the specs are not apples to apples. For instance, within the Sony ES line, the bottom of the line is the 1000. It is NOT digital and has a more respectable S/N ratio whereas the better receivers such as the 3000 and 5000 have what looks on paper to be terrible specs. http://agoraquest.com/ is a forum for Sony fans that may provide some more information. The Oade Bros site http://www.oade.com/Home_theater/sony/sony_es/index2.html has all the specs for these receivers.

The advantage (other than possible sonic, which is up for debate) is that these digital amps run very cool. This means that not only coller running, but lighter weight and space savings with the less need for big heat sinks.

This is quite annoying. I keep trying to write "*booze*" and it keeps cooming out as booze. And all I had to drink this morning was some milk.

have the same experience. The two are not really interchangeable. I think booze is much much better as it gives more pleasure than what it is replacing.
