I seem to recall them being 8.8mm
HTPC or modded DVD player that upconverts to 1080i through the component
is the only way to fly with this old but still very good PJ I still have mine in one of my HT systems ;)

Thanks for the info. I am currently running an old Sony DVP-S7000 player, but was going to get a Pioneer DV-578A-S to replace it in the short term and then a Denon 3910. Do either of these upconvert as you suggest. I know the resolution is only 1068x480and it has a line doubler built in, so is upconverting really worth it?

Hello
none of these players will upconvert to 1080i through the componet outputs
You are wasting your money on the Pioneer or Denon with this PJ
You need to look for a Liteon LVD-2000 or simular dvd player that will upconvert to 1080i via conmponent outputs The Sony VPL400q will not lock onto a progressive signal but will lock onto 1080i when you select HDTV component in the 400Q's set up menu

To answer your other question yes with the 400Q upconverting to 1080i is better the internal video processor of the 400Q is not that great

Thanks for the info - the dvd players selected are in preparation for a new projector in ~1-2 years.

Hi
I would not even consider the Pioneer for any projector.
My advice is to find an up converting player for the 400Q and wait till you get the new projector then upgrade your DVD player.
We will have HD DVD by then and their will also likely be several new models and advancements in DVD players every year new models ship

Thanks for the info and good advice. I don't seem to be getting any hits on the liteon on Google. Are there other, maybe more readily available DVD players that upconvert to 1080i via conmponent outputs? Again, thanks for the help!
