Hi, video and audioholiucs I just wanted to mention that I found the top-rated SONY vpl-vw100 projector for under $6200 including shipping on ebay and a lot of other websites recently though froogle and pricegrabber, although froogle can be unreliable somtimes.

This is a kinda exciting buts its one of the best Projectors you can buy for the money, previosuly such high end equipment used to cost $30,000 such as quardia and I am talking last year or the year before

Although the $999 bulb may be a factor, its only because its superior to the older bulb technologies. Note that sony's vpl-vw50 which is similar has a much cheaper bulb around $300- and the price will probably be about $4,000, you don't get the SONY DRC which benefits existing content such as no-hd sources with the vpl-vw50.

So videoholics what are the cons, Throw them at me, because $6k isnt something to take lightly. Its true that my screen size would be limited to 100 inches but that doesn't matter to me as that is quite big for most homes, and a $700 cardada screen would be sweet, although I am informed that SONY is releasing a screen dedicated for this projector.

There are no real big flaws with this projector, compared to the optoma and panasonic ones its probably better, full 1080p, and I am not just talking about the $2,000o nes I am talking about all those optoma, yamaha, and pananasoc, projectors that sell in this price range. Better yet, the DLP projectors that are 3 chip(no rainbow effect becuase there is no spinning with 3 chips).

So How Can I go wrong?

Can anyone chime in?

$6,000 is a big investment, so I WOULD love some thoughts.

Can anyone chime in, I have been informed that 1080p is a big deal and that this sony delivers "cleaner images than your local cinema". Some people have said that its almost like the original film strips.

I plan on pairiing it with a carada criteron precision brillian white screen- the same one reviewed by Clint.

I would go for it if you can afford it, it sounds like a good investment.

A top-end CRT PJ would be about the only thing I would say could out-preform it, but that is a whole different animal.

Yes it does, hoever they have http://www.cine4home.com/reviews/projectors/SonyVPLVW50/VPLVW50Review.htmwarranties which will give you a couple bulbs over a period of a few years.

I am informed that the costly bulb is exactly superior to normal ones and that the only other sony product to use the $999 was the $30,000 qualia.
The vpl-vw50 uses a cheaper bulb but its quality isnt as perfect. http://www.cine4home.com/reviews/projectors/SonyVPLVW50/VPLVW50Review.htm
See link for details.

Nevertheless the vpl-vw50 offers incredible value almost as good as teh vpl-vw100 but for just $1,000 more, why n9ot get the vpl-vw100. Some people say its looks almost exactly like the 35mm film originals in the theaters.

Go Figure and chiming in welcome

I really like mine:D
But, it does need a pro to calibrate it and would not use one that hasn't calibrated this model before. This adds to the costs but worth it.

You have the Sony vpl-vw100?

Thanks for chiming in, I would love to know your experience

using it as well as any of the negatives, which I beleive outweigh the positives.

I understand you do need a dark room but am not sure how dark it would have to be. I am guessing very dark as when you open a closet.

So ahead and send me a Private message with your experience or if you want to chime in this thread about your dealings with it. How do you calibrate a projector by any chance- besides avia home theater. How much do those professionals run. I don't trust buying a used projector of ebay especially with a no returns policy- and consdiering its expensive I minues well spend a little under 6 grand for a new one.
