Boy, did I screw up... Tried to fine adjust my picture with controls I had no business screwing with. Now, when the crosshair is up, the red line is bent terribly at the top and bottom and I only have convergence at the middle of the screen. The picture is virtually unwatchable. Can anyone help me figure out what to do to get the lines straight again? I'm really embarassed about this. Or, can someone recomend a tech in the Las Vegas area that I can contact to help me professionally? The manual seemed so simple to follow... :(

Hello
There is a procedure for setting up a CRT projector it is much more involved than just setting up static convergence It generally takes a qualified Tec 4-8 Hours to set up a CRT projector After the proper installation has been obtained on a new out of the box CRT projector. One that has been previously calibrated by a novice will take longer to set up. And one that has been installed incorrectly is wasted time. The projector must be installed at the correct throw distance and drop distance it must be exactly square with the screen and it must be perfectly level. The point is to use as little electronic correction as possible.

Raster Centering, Spot Beam size, Lens Shimming, and convergence are just a few things that need to be done. It is a very involved procedure and absolutely should not be attempted by the novice It is dangerous work and if you poke around in the wrong place you can kill the projector or yourself

I have not set up a Sony 12xx series crt in more than 2 years
I may or may not be able to help you as I am regulary in the Vegas area

Thanks RLA!

Thanks for responding. As you can tell, I was very upset with the situation, and myself. Thankfully, the situation has gotten much better. I realised that the remote commander wasn't working very well, and some functions not at all. I called Sony and ordered a new remote commander. Luckily, they still make them and they FedEx'd it. I hooked it up and found out how to go back to original factory presets. Then it was a matter of re-converging, lowering contrast and brightness, and voila-- a useable picture. Useable, but by no means perfect. It still looks a little soft. Now, I don't know if it is the cable signal (garbage in-garbage out...), the line quad that is connected, or that focus is off. I learned my lesson--I don't want to go screwing with the electromagnetic and lens focus without guidance. Plus, I just bought the house :) ( I move my furniture in tomorrow :( ) and the current setup was left in the house as part of the deal. I haven't even had a chance to run Video Essentials, yet.
But, any suggestions? Also, the picture converged pretty well at all provided zone points, but at the center-bottom ( a point not provided ), the red gun spikes upward enough that when a 'ticker' is running along the bottom of the screen, the red starts as part of white, seperates from the white a whole letter size, then goes back into white before the corner. Dead-center is the worst point.
Again, thanks for responding. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated. I am an eager student. Also, please let me know when you are coming to Vegas. I'd love to meet you and have you tweak the system. I've always wanted a dedicated theater, and so I want this to be best it can be.

Hi There,
I've got a lot of experience with the 1272Q. It is one of the easiest CRT PJ's to set up. Do a web search for the installation and dealer setup manual. You should be able to find a pdf copy.

Then, all you need is a little patience to spend time going through the setup procedure to get the feel of it, only making adjustments to fix the problem you have with red. You should only use zone as a final touch up.

Avia or VE disks will get you there for brightness (black level) and contrast (white level).

Enjoy your new home and theater!

P.S. It takes a pro to get the most out of one of these projectors, so I'd recommend a calibration when you get settled in.

Raster centering,Mechanical alighnment are critical for good perfromance. If set up correctly
you should use very little electronic convergance If you do this correctly your CRT projector will be very stable and not drift you will also minimize the draw on the power supply G-2 level gain should also be considered If you do take the cover off your CRT projector for calibration you better know were to adjust gabbing the wrong part can be leathal
