Sony STR-K750P optical input problem

I have a Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2)hooked-up to my TV to play DVD's.
Also I have a Sony STR-K750P (Amp) surround sound receiver amp.

I noticed the PS2 has an optical output.
I plugged an optical cable between the 2 inputs/outputs, went into the audio config in the PS2 and enabled everything I could find to do with optical.

I played a DVD. The AMP is only showing the analog option.

Why isn't it working? I noticed that the PS2 sends light down the fibre but if I only plug it into the amp no light comes the other way so it must be a receiver. I have tried cycling the input mode button on the Amp but I only get 'auto' and 'analog'. I tried removing the rca audio inputs on the back as I thought they might override an optical input but I just got no sound instead.

Or can't this Amp actually do what I want it to do?

Ok, from your PS2, the optical output goes to your receiver optical input, let say "Opt.1" from the back of your receiver in this case.

From your PS2 audio menu setup, enable the "Bitstream" fom the digital output.

From your receiver, select the optical input (Opt.1) so it correspond to the source connected of your PS2, let say "DVD" in this case. [It's called Selecting the Digital Inputs to the appropriate Sources]. In the audio menu setup of your receiver, set the right digital input (Opt.1) to the appropriate source (DVD).
Then select the DVD input and "Auto" from your receiver. Put a DVD inside your PS2 with a Dolby Digital soundtrack, making sure that you select the appropriate soundtrack from the DVD audio menu. It should work.

Welcome to the forum!

That's not a problem. The PS2 is sending out a signal, so you'll see the light. The receiver is just accepting a signal, so it doesn't send any light out - so don't worry about that part.

I don't see a way to select the source for the optical input in the manual that I downloaded. The optical input seems to be permanently assigned to the "VIDEO 2" source. Bob gave a description of how to do it, so perhaps I got an older manual. If his procedure doesn't work for you, please try selecting the "VIDEO 2" input (if you haven't already) and see if that works for you when you try using the optical input.
