Sony STR-DE485

We got this receiver a few years ago. It sounds pretty good, and has puts out about 70WPC. I love music, and I just got a Creative X-Fi for my computer. I am wondering if there are better quality receivers for around $300-350 that will give me more clarity than this one. My problem with it is that it seems sort of muddy, as an old Realistic receiver we have sounds much better. Any suggestions are welcome.

Take your pick. Just about anything at the $350 price point will sound better IMO. Onkyo, Denon, Harman Kardon, Yamaha.

I bought a 475 new for the bedroom a few years back because it was a great deal and I figured for around $100, it will be enough for the bedroom. I sold it within a few days because it distorted badly driving just two relatively easy to drive bookshelf speakers.
