the only real reasons to get a Sony is that they usually last a long time and match the remote if you already have the TV. the sound is good but not great and could probably be beat at most lower price points by Onkyo (excluding the apparently flakey Onkyo 602). the Sony's seem to have general issues with DTS but are very solid on Dolby Digital.
the lower end Sony's also have most of the functions as buttons on the remote, rather than menus. while lacking "coolness", it is very easy to make changes while still watching your movie.
if cats can't do math, how can they always find the geometric center of the bed ?
