Sony PS2 & Onkyo 770

I am probably going to purchase Onkyo's new 770 HTIB, as it sounds good and fits my budget. I already have a Sony PS2 - is there some really good reason, from an audio/video quality point of view, not to use the PS2 as my DVD player ? Or put another way - would I notice a significant improvement using a dedicated DVD player ?

Thanks

Matthew

Yes. The P2 is a sucky DVD player. For one thing, the picture isn't that great, and two, the remote costs extra (although the P2 controller works very well if you don't mind the cord). Also, the P2 is ungodly loud- I can't imagine how you could stand to listen to that all the way thru a movie (unless the newer versions are quieter than mine).

Lastly, depending on what you're using for a display, you have to pay more extra money still to buy a special cable for component vid.

The P2 makes a decent 'emergency' player, but I strongly recommend you buy a dedicated DVD player & save the P2 for gaming.
