Sony Playstation SCPH-1001 SUPER, AWESOME, $5000 CD player.

I am posting this in the steam vent because I am to lazy to write even the most miniature review for this thing. (mostly because my pinky hurts really good)

So, how does it sound you are wondering. I know you are wondering because you saw that little clip on G4TV where they made some remark, while it seems they weren't being serious, about the playback ability of this PS1 model to match that of $5000 stand-alone CD players, you might have even read something from NBC about it. Well if this player is comparable to a $5000 stand-alone I want to get the stand-alone! More importantly, I want to smash the stand-alone that equates to the PS1 to smithereens. The playback quality is awful, worse than the integrated disc spinner on the Teac. I can't say I surprised though, for crying out loud, I got this PS1 for $5 at a pawnshop.

I used StraightWire for the audio and Monster Cable for the video to achieve the best performance possible. The StraightWire allowed for me to get that "perfect" sound. You may also notice I have some very good reading material from one of the smartest audiophiles alive.

I swear, there is nothing magical at all about this PS1. Maybe I got a bum unit.

It doesn't rake in much now that its faults have been found. I saw one earlier "buy it now" for $150, I doubt they get that.

Wow, that sucks, ohh well the time has come and gone for the unit. I am sure it will be rediscovered in a year or so.

Would it be possible to ship this thing to one of you guys to run it on the bench?

I am going to give it another listen in a few days after I let it "warm up".

I let it "warm up" overnight, and it still sounds like it sucks. Hmm, maybe I didn't wait long enough, I hope I didn't waste all that "warming up" on Pink Floyd.

If you had wanted it to "warm up", you should have used the power cord from your toaster.

I would do that, but the Toaster cord is not readily detachable. However, the Playstation sounds plenty "warm" anyway.

You know why the PS1 sounded bad? Your PS1 was used so much, the lens became magnetized.
You need a lens demagnetizer.... like this one
