According to Justin Mann; "Sony exited the plasma market to solely concentrate on LCD technology!" See Techspot.com, 12/26/2006.

Did I miss something here? The article starts with Panasonic only to concentrate on plasma technology and Sony lcd, according to
these guys Sony started ad campaign. Does anyone know anything about this?

As far as I know Sony hasn't been making plasmas for a few years. They may have had some commercial models or something else, but I don't think I've seen a plasma with their name on it for at least a year or two.

I just had a guy out to resolder our 32" flat screen crt board (lost the red  ). He's the owner and has been doing a lot of repairs on newer flat panels. He seems to think that plasma's are on their way out for good. He said plasmas keep him so busy he'll never starve until they finally quit making them. His complaint was that they run too hot, and destroy the electronics inside. He also said LCD flat screens are the wave of the future since they run cooler. He felt projection units would soon die out due to the expense of bulb replacement. It was interesting talking to him.

I wouldn't agree with him that plasmas are on their way out, but lcds are making larger inroads into the market place. The new batches of lcds are giving plasmas a run for their money color wise, but they also tend to cost more.

I wonder about the laser screen that's supposed to debut last quarter 07 or early 08, according to the developers its lighter, runs cooler, and has better resolution than lcd or plasma, oh yeah its also cheaper! Let's see.:)

As soon as they make 100"x54" 1080p, LCD that roll up, out of the way, perhaps I might consider that:D

That might not be too far off with OLED on the horizon. :)

About plasma TV's, I work for a store that is also a service center and we have had relatively few problems with plasmas. In fact, the ONLY plasmas we have taken in for repair were Sony's and Samsungs. We have taken in ZERO LCD's for repair since I have worked there.

I prefer LCD myself because there is no burn-in risk and no glare on the screen.

Eh. I still haven't seen an LCD that I like as a TV. I always get the "staring at a headlight" feeling watching an LCD TV. I guess I just really like the look of phosphors.

I think that plasmas will be around until supplanted by SED.
