Sony manages to out-blow Bose!

In Circuit City the other day, I saw a Sony surround system with (get this) literally golf-ball size speakers and a "sub"! They make the tiny Blose cubes look like real speakers by comparison. The crossover frequency has got to be at least 400Hz.:D

It should probably be very popular - not for you and me - but for the majority of people who are more concerned with decor than sound quality. Sounds like a good move on their part.

More like 1,000 Hz!

:eek: Just like MP3s which is more convient than CDs or vinyl? Speakers based on the superficialness of looks rather than going past the ugly and finding the beautiful sound within. :p

I believe AH staff had something about these a few months ago.

This would be something my ex girlfriend would try to buy if I wasn't around to stop her. She was all set to buy the tiny little Bose set up, and was shocked when I told her not to, and why. She has the same speakers I have, the SVS SBS-01's and the PB12-NSD sub. The sub is a thousand times better than my crappy Sony 12".

Sad thing is, I don't know if she can tell the difference, except when the sub is really working.

we had a demo at futureshop when I worked there and everybody seemed to like it. but not me! the only thing they can reproduce is voice and there again, the sub picked up the lower voice notes. They are terrible. Even the high frequency are not detailed. I guess they win an award for both the smallest system and the latest system I would buy ever.

But check this spec out......

Woofer Size(s)

* 2 way: 12cm / 16cm; active closed bass reflex

Bass reflex out of such a small driver. That's gotta be awesome.

I'm more interested in how they got a 35mm driver to be "full range"...

It's a complete waste. For $800, you could put someting better together yourself. I do understand why it appeals to the mainstream crowd though. It's the same reason Bose has been successful. What "Average Joe" doesn't know won't hurt him. :)

I was at best buy the other day, and saw these hooked up to a Plasma that was playing some really cool feed, and as I was standing there some totally cute girl running the A/V area came by and she said... Pretty great sound coming out of those eh... I frowned at her without even knowing I did it... I told her "Actually I was marveling at the picture of the Plasma... If you saw the system I have at home, I think you would be a might bit freaked out... " She said "OH":rolleyes:

Warpdrv: There is a time and a place to be an audio critic. That was definitely NOT the time.:D You should have invited her out to dinner and then taken her to your place to show her your big woofers.

I agree with Steelheart. Warpdrv, invite her over to your house for a movie. She might be impressed and not want to leave. :p

This all ties in with how people think Bose is the best ever. Marketing, no thank you.
