I have the Sony KDSR60XBR1 set.It was purchased in April of 2006,the build date is February of 2006. I have just noticed that I have the dreaded green blob issue. The entire upper right hand corner of my set is green. I called Sony. They want me to call them back when I get home from work to try and troubleshoot the problem. From what I have been reading, there is no fix for this issue.Am I correct? I read that people have had optical blocks changed and the green blob still shows up? I am going to give them one shot to fix this.If it is not fixed,I am going to ask them for a replacement set. Has anyone had the optical block changed and the set is ok? I heard in time, the green blob will returnThanks for the info.I'll keep everyone posted on what happens.

You are correct. My XBR1 never developed it or any other issues, but I still took it back and later went and got a A2000 which despite some of the negative reviews, I feel is a better set than the XBR1 in my experience, especially given the price.

I have the KDSR50XBR1 and haven't had any problems yet. I purchased last March. I have read where some say they took it back without any problems and got the A2000 series. How did you take it back if there were no problems found. I have the extended warranty so I should be covered if it comes up, but was just curious how common this issue is.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I think there are over 500 pages of discussion about this problem on the AVS forum, my impression is that it is a common problem but I haven't waded through the thousands of posts. I bought my 50" XBR1 set early March, Feb. '06 build date, no problem till a few weeks ago and upper right corner has yellowish green/greenish yellow stain that doesn't go away and appears to be getting bigger as time goes on. Repairman here today and said "light engine" needs to be replaced, I think this may be same thing as "optical block" that is referred to in AVS forum oft times, not sure. Have to wait for 2 to 3 weeks for new part, tech said it's an "updated part"..implying it's better than the opriginal....let's hope so.

I have the same 'green blob' issue with my april 2006 Sony KDSR60XBR1 set.
The local tech came out yesterday and I told him it was a known problem, he fliped open his phone and called Sony, within minutes he had confirmed that there was a service bullitin on this problem and he had order an optical block.
I will let you all know how it works out.
This is my third expensive sony tv that is broken (all fairly new) .Since I don't beleive in service contracts I had to simply move the other two sets into the garage (what do you do with a huge broke tv?). This time I did pony up for the service contract. Boy was I steamed with my new expensive sony turned all green at 9 months. But at least Sony is acknowledging the problem so time will tell. More later...

My 60" Grand Wega had the dreaded "road map" problem. It happened out of warranty and I didn't have the ext. warr. either.

I found this: http://www.sony.ca/sonyca/view/english/warranty/consumer_support_OpticalBlock.shtml

Repair was free, but I had to take it to a repair depot as no tech was willing to make the 3 hr drive to my place. Techs took pic of screen, emailed to Sony for repair auth. Repair was quick, but auth by Sony took about 2 weeks.

TV seems fine now *crosses fingers*

I am experiencing the same problem with my 60" Grand Wega with the yellow spots and green background. I was told by the repair place that is picking it up tomorrow that there is a service bulletin out on this but Sony is not notifying owners of the problem just waiting to hear from them and then fixing it. I purchased the tv in February 07 and it has been gradually getting worse the past month or so. I was told they would have my tv for 4 weeks or more because there are other problems they need to fix along with the optical problem.
