Sony KDF-42WE655 vs. KD-34XBR960

I am in the market for a HDTV set for a nook above my gas fireplace. The dimensions are 49W X 39H X 24D. I have somewhat narrowed down my search to these two Sony TV's. The WE is a LCD and the XBR a tube TV. My viewing area is a couch about 10' away and I have already been viewing a TV there for 5 years so the angle I'm used to. Logic tells me to get the LCD over a tube (lighter, bigger screen). The price is comperable and in my price range (under $2,000). Just wanted thoughts on which way to lean. If I hadn't heard so many rave reviews on the XBR, I'd probably just pick the WE. I will be using the cable card as I can't get HD hookups to the nook.
That's why I need the built-in tuner. I just have two coax going to the nook.

Also, I've heard various detail on the PIP.
1. Can you split screen and get the whole image half and half or do you get
a smaller version on each side? I was told both by different sales staff.
2. Can you have an HD braodcast on one side and a standard broadcast on
the other? I was told either HD HD or Non-HD Non-HD.
3. Can you split screen two different input sources (DVD, TV Broadcast).
My prime need is two football games or sporting event, wifes choice.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

I'm not sure about HD side by side with non HD but I do know you can have side by side from 2 different sources and you can adjust the sizes of either side. I have the WE and am very pleased with it. There are better Sets out there but for the money I don't think you can go wrong.
