Sony Introduces New 400-disc DVD Changer with HDMI

Sold! I've been itching to buy a megachanger with a digital ouptut for years now. (back then it was DVI), and my Sony megadisk CD player has performed flawlessly for years.

I don't read anything in there regarding progressive scan or other video output connections. I'm assuming it upconverts or at least supports PS, but what about component output?

This thing sounds really tempting... never having to touch my DVDs again sounds really cool... My only concern comes down to the OSD. Are there any changers that connect to the Internet to get cover pictures or movie info (like media player does with music CDs)? I'm sure it would cost a lot more than $400, but I can't imagine a cooler way to browse through DVDs... Movie titles are cooler than "disc 1, disc 2, etc", but still.

There are solutions like kaleidoscope, and the Escient Fireball DVDM-300, but they cost an arm, a leg and your first born. But there are computer software based systems that you can use and rip all your DVD's to an external HD and view cover art, as well networking them to anywhere in your house.

Also do a google search for DVD ripping. I know one of the best software DVD/CD rippers out there is alcohol 120%

Thanks John! Gawd, why must this all be so complicated? I understand and truly do appreciate the reason for copyright protection, but in order to do what I want, I have to buy/download at least three different utilities and then there's no guarantee that they will work and they won't even be all that easy to use. It's a tired argument, but people that DON'T pirate media shouldn't have to deal with half-assed products. Meh.

Why would I want to take CDs out of the megachanger? They're all ripped to iTunes and I just burn mixes for car use. And I don't even do that anymore since I got satellite radio.

Best place to keep cd's? In the case they come in. Why would i burn a copy when i can play the org which will be a better quality then a burned. I'm not paying for radio,i already pay for tv. Think theres a reason some brands that dont make any and the ones that do make 1 to choose from. I guess the reasons for getting one are as good as to not.

But when they're in the megachanger I don't have to take the originals out of the case.

And in my car, AAC is good enough cosidering the sound quality of my car's stereo. And theres a bigger chance of the original CDs getting scratched/stolen in my car.

I doubt you'll ever see a Sony product play DVDA, since they paid for most of the development of SACD. That's something you're just going to have to live with.

Newer changers' disc recognition?

Hi,

I have the original 200-DVD Sony changer (CX850D), and this new unit appears to be a great upgrade. However, I really hate the DVD navigator that came with mine. It rarely recognizes disc titles (even after I put them in a computer and they have usable volume names and even cover art) let alone cover art.

Are the newer Sonys any better? Are the navigators any faster?

Are there any networked DVD changers that don't cost a frickin arm and a leg?

Are there any that plug into, say, Firewire, that also don't cost an arm and a leg??

Just curious on the state of the changer art since I got mine all those years ago...
