Uncompressed lossless audio does sound better than lossy compressed audio. Whether frequency response to 40KHz matters, versus to 20KHz, is a highly debatable point. Personally I think that part of their argument is baloney.

Properly mastered and encoded 320kbs MP3 is virtually indistinguishable from lossless, that said the prior is very rare beast and in most cases lossless will sound better.

I think Sony is trying to tap the audiophool market and their 500 uk pounds PC Dac just emphasizes just that. But I am all for low-distortion, neutral audio products and hopefully Sony could deliver these at reasonable prices.

My impression is that Sony is trying to make people think that their "High Resolution Audio" products are revolutionary, when really, there isn't much new under the sun here. Of course, getting good sound quality from any audio equipment still depends on the quality of the original masters.
