This may be a dumb question; but, I am going to ask it anyway. Does anyone know the difference between Interlace and Progressive. When I connect my DVD player to my TV with S-Video and set the DVD to Progressive, the picture is fine. However, when I connect my DVD player to my TV using Component Video Cables, the picture deterioates badly until I switch my DVD from Progressive to Interlace. At that point, the picture shows up fine. Why is that? Also, when I use Component Video Cables from my DVD player to my receiver and run the Component Video Cables from my receiver to the TV, no picture appears. Would this be a problem with the receiver? I thinking that it may be because when I connect straight from the DVD to the TV the picture is fine. BTW, I have an old receiver. It's a Yamaha RX-V620. I do plan to upgrade to the RX-V1500 or the RX-V2500 within the next two months.

Hi,

Progressive should yeald the better picture, however as i understand it, this has to be supported both by the DVD and the TV.

I own the SONY DVP-NS590P, and when I connect to my TV using S-video or SCART the DVD automaticly switches to NORMAL (interlaced) mode. Progressive Scan is only possible using the Component outputs. So it could be that your TV does not support progressive mode, hence the distorted picture with the component output. And with S-video the DVD defaults to interlaced, so the picture looks ok.

Hope this helps,

Menel.
