I have an old Sony 355 cd player that I hadn’t used for years. Recently I decided to use it again, and of course I had to take things apart a bit to replace the three rubber belts, as old ones were stretched out. Anyway, that went fine, but now an odd issue has me pulling my hair out. The unit tries to load each empty slot four times, then goes to next empty slot and tries to load four times, etc. It does not allow me to stop the process unless I turn power off, but it’s banging itself silly trying to keep loading cds that are not there!
Unit does play a loaded cd fine, but will not go past any empty slots…it does same process trying to load each empty slot four times, again and again. I spent an hour talking with Sony looking for help, but they were NO help. You tube guy told me to adjust the disc sensor, but that did not help either
PLEASE can somebody help me !?

Surprised it still works. Most of those type of players bit the dust years ago.

Here is the service manual for your unit.

I suspect that the laser or detector for the presence of a disc has failed, or got moved when you changed the belts.
Realignment procedure is explained, but it requires an oscilloscope. You will have to find a technician if you can. They are all pretty much out of business now.

In any case it will be cheaper to buy a new player. It will have to be single disc though.

Just buy a cd/dvd drive you can rip the discs from, far more useful than an old cd changer.
