I've got a fairly old (probably about 15 years) Sony CD deck (CDP-M29) that no longer works. The CD tray won't lock shut, it retracts fully but then makes a noise, like its trying to continue to shut, before the tray opens again. What's more annoying is I recently bought a replacement, albeit used, unit from ebay, however on plugging it in it has exactly the same problem! Has anyone heard of a similar issue and/or have any idea on how it could be repaired?

I'd go and buy a new CD deck but the connection to the main unit (XO-D20) isn't phono but a 4 pin flat plug of some sort so a new unit won't plug in (unless an adaptor is available?) and its annoying to have to replace the whole unit when only the CD deck is faulty.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

TIA, Simon.

I thought someone might help you by now. The only thing I can think of is pulling the cover and see the operation for a problem. But, I cannot recommend pulling the cover as you may get shocked by 120?
