Maybe I should have posted this in the Loudspeaker section but I had a quick look and thought my question doesn't seem technical enought for these guys!

Hope this doesn't seem like a daft question even in the beginners section and if it is I please go easy on me.

I'm on the verge of buying the Sony BDV E870 which comes with front SS-TSB104 tallboy speakers and smaller SS-TSB101 surround speakers. I'm stuck for space on the wall the TV is on and wondered if I could use the front tallboy speakers as the rear speakers and use the smaller speakers as the front ones?

I've looked at the spec' on the online manual and although there isn't much to be gleaned from that by a novice like me it seems that essentially the front and surround speakers are the same?

I'd also need to extend the speaker wires and as the tallboys and sub' don't have seperate individual cables and have sony's proprietary plug at the end I will have to cut and join the cables putting my extension bit in the middle. Is there a recommended way to do this or will ordinary cable Joints do the job?

Many thanks in advance.

Hey,

As far as the speakers go, no they're not identical. The Fronts on the e870 are 2-way, meaning the woofer/tweeter are seperated (or other combination) thus providing for better sound quality.

However, they can be used as the rear speakers with no problem. Infact, the rear speakers are the same as the e370's front speakers.

As for joining cables, I'd reckon that any form of cable joint would work fine.
