I have a Sony 5 disc cd changer and everything works fine on it except for one little thing...it just keeps opening and closing for some reason. The model I have is CDP-C245. It's an older model but if I can fix it myself then I would like to try before I throw it away. I got the thing for free so if i end up making it worse then no biggy, i just like to try and fix electronics lol. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the problem could be. Do I just need to open it up and clean it or what? Any information would be great! Thanks! :)

It is most likely either the board that controls the tray or the ribbon cable that attaches to the tray. Over time, the ribbon cable wears and eventually breaks. One of mine has the opposite problem, sometimes it won't open all the way or it will pause for like 30 seconds before it closes. There is good and bad news. The good news is it can be repaired and the cable is only like $20, if that is all it is. The bad news is, if you take it to a service center, it will likely be a minimum of $100 just to look at it and then in labor to fix it, at which point you could practically buy another player.

Thanks. Yeah I figured I got it for free so I mean anything I can try myself to fix it for as cheaply as possible would be sweet. Any other spots to take a look at once I open the thing up?
