something comparable to beta 20's

The beta's are a bit bigger than expected. I was wondering if there was something out there that would be comparable in quality but smaller. I was looking at the energy c-100's but didn't know if that'd be an inferior speaker.

Any recommendations? Was trying to keep it around $300 for LCR but max would go to $500.

Thanks

Give the The speaker company a try. They have free inhome demo's

You might also see if a local musician store has some Behringer 2030p's

They are pretty big speakers.(It's why they go so cheap IMO)

Look around and you'll find something that works for you. :)

The Ascend CMB-170 may come in near the upper end of your budget for three. Definite upgrade over the Beta series (IMO) and probably about 15 pounds or so.

yeah I think I'm going to try out something from the speaker company along with the beta's. Compare them side by side and see if the trade off of sound to size is worth it.

Sounds like a good idea. Also you could look at bookshelf speakers from aperion. They have a 30 day in home trial and cover shipping both ways.

Also the Ascend speaker mentioned above is a very good reccomendation.

Yeah, my first choice went starting to research was the aperion's but the price was just too high for me right now. So I figured I shouldn't even listen to them in case I really like them and want to keep :)

I've done a significant amount of A/B testing with the 4 pairs of speakers I'm auditioning right now (170, 2030P, TSBL, SBS-01) and I think the CBM-170 SE is my favorite. I really liked the Axiom M2, but I think I'm going to have to order the M3 and compare it against the winner of my personal bookshelf shootout (which will probably be the CBM-170). They all sound really good so it's a tough decision.

Ok I purchased 2 Beta 20's and a Beta c250. Also, got the TSC TC2 center, TSC TSBL pair, and TSC P6-PR pair. The P6-PR will be the sound:size trade-off speaker if the size of the Beta's and TSBL are too much.

make sure you toy with your placement if you can. Sometimes you find those speakers that just sound terrific in a certain spot.

Unfortunetly placement is limited, especially when two pairs are up there to a/b. And my usage will have to be nearfield so that's how I'm audtioning. Also I'm just using zone 2 on my receiver to connect the b pair and I can't level match zone 1 & 2 independently so I adjust volume using my ears; which really sucks, but I think I'm doing ok.

This is what I've got to work with for placement.

Definitely will and I think I found a paradigm dealer fairly close by so I might just test a pair from there out too just for s.a.g.
